Join Our Board:
AFDC is seeking highly motivated energetic individuals to serve on our board of directors.  AFDC is a working board and anyone who joins can expect to work with passionate professionals and gain valuable leadership and fundraising skills and experience.

Individuals interested in serving on the AFDC board may submit an application at any time.  A complete application includes:

Board Application and Selection Process:

Step 1: Applications are Submitted

Step 2: Receipt of Application is Confirmed

Step 3: Applications are Reviewed

Step 4: Finalists are Interviewed

Step 5: Nominees are Selected

Step 6: New members are Appointed

 
Expectations of Board of Directors:
Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in board meetings, special meetings and annual planning sessions
  • Attend and participate in committee meetings
  • Participate in AFDC's special events
  • Make informed and educated decisions through the review of materials and discussions
  • Avoid conflicts of interest and, when impossible to avoid, disclose conflicts of interest
  • Advocate for AFDC
  • Represent AFDC to the community and represent the community to the organization
  • Resign if you cannot perform your duties
  • Act with prudence and ethics, adhering to the values and policies of AFDC, and putting the best interests of the organization before your own

Qualifications:

  • Agrees with our mission and vision
  • Time to devote to organization
  • Agree that American Sign Language is an important part of deaf child's life
  • Positive attitude towards deafness
  • Support families

Time Commitment:

  • Attend 6 board meetings per year (12 hours)
  • Attend a minimum of 2 events per year (8 hours)
  • Serve on a minimum of 1 committee per year (24 hours)
  • Total of 44 hours per year
